I have another small shipment of the stupendously, ridiculously good Smith Farms Kona on the way. It’s a small lot and it will NOT last long. If you want some, send me an email. Selling price will be about $23 or $24. I finish mine a little differently than Bob does – first, I use a drum roaster, second, I coast into the second crack just barely making it before a quick water quench. My version winds up having a little more body but still with that classic Kona profile.
So this is one of those coffees that the national Organic Program will not allow us to call organic because nobody has had their pockets lined to put a mark on the bag. Yet Bob uses all sustainable practices and eschews the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. Sounds like organic to me. And I pay Bob a pretty penny for the coffee, and it’s a spectacular coffee, so we both think it’s a fair trade, yet again nobody skimmed any money to put a mark on the bag, so we dare not call if capital F capital T fair trade. Don’t get me started…
