Those of you who have our coffee delivered via FedEx or other carrier have probably noticed that your beans often arrive in some odd-sized, scruffy box. And if it required filling material, it was most likely crumbled sheets of The Independent, our local liberal rag with which I have kind of a love-hate relationship (I have sometimes worried about sending customers the racy ads in that paper, but I’m guessing that most of you don’t have the kids flattening out the packaging material for something to read).
While it’s a known fact that I’m a little thrifty about some things (and not at all about others), the truth is that we reuse boxes because it kills me to see them discarded, or even recycled, after just one use. It’s just wasteful. And we get a TON of boxes in our business, hell, in our lives. So we choose to reuse them whenever possible, i.e., whenever they are the right size and in a good enough condition that they won’t compromise the quality of our products.
Well, we’ve figured out a way to communicate our environmental committment to our customers (and FedEx guy). No longer will our customers think we’re just cheap. From now on, all repurposed shipping cartons will be stamped with our handy, dandy, “we’re here to save the planet” stamp, complete with Muddy Dog logo. I even bought a green ink pad just so everyone knows how green we are! We hope you will keep the chain going by reusing these boxes yourself (and it won’t hurt if you leave the logo intact 😉
